ThoMar’s CertiDry product line desiccant bags have offered quality tested according to DIN 55473 since 2019. As part of the certification and regular monitoring by DIN CERTCO, the areas of warehouse and goods receipt, QM system, documentation, and records were recently independently audited, and no deviations were found. For our customers, this means the assurance of desiccant bags with clearly defined requirements for labeling, design, and performance. <\/p>\n\n
DIN 55473 desiccant bags are primarily used in industrial packaging processes and by export packers. They contain dry clay, which adsorbs and stores water vapor from the air. The prerequisite for sufficient dehumidification performance is that the packaged goods and desiccant are sealed from the external climate by a barrier film \u2013 usually PE film or aluminum composite film. The basis for dimensioning is desiccant units. A desiccant unit is the amount of desiccant that, in equilibrium with air at 23 \u00b0C (\u00b1 2 \u00b0C) and 40% relative humidity, adsorbs at least 6.0 g of water vapor. This allows the bags to be classified according to their defined adsorption capacity and selected comparably. <\/p>\n\n
When selecting the appropriate desiccant, also pay attention to the labeling on the bag: In addition to the DIN test mark, it also indicates the standard designation, the number of units, and the reference to the American military standard MIL-D-3464E. The choice of the appropriate bag variant is also relevant. Type A stands for the low-dust version, Type B for the dust-proof fabric variant. Which variant is suitable depends on the requirements for the packaged goods, product protection, and the packaging process. <\/p>\n\n
