Properties of Data Loggers
ThoMar offers you data loggers for temperature and humidity for your test project, e.g. container transport with and without desiccant use, or for permanent climate monitoring. These are used during transport and storage of goods of all kinds in containers or within packaging. You can use the logger to evaluate the exact progression of temperature and humidity during your logistics project and take further measures to reduce moisture if necessary. Especially with sensitive products, monitoring temperature and humidity is important to determine whether the use of (additional) desiccants is necessary.
Application of Data Loggers
Data loggers are very easy to use and are, for example, attached in the container before transport begins and recording is started with the push of a button. At the end, another button press stops the recording, the logger is plugged into the USB port of your computer, and a report for the recording period is automatically generated. We are happy to advise you before use, also regarding limit values applicable to your specific product, e.g. for mold formation or corrosion, and recommend the appropriate desiccant.
Properties of Humidity Indicators
Humidity indicators serve to check the climate in packaging. They display the relative humidity within a sealed barrier layer.
A humidity indicator consists of a special indicator paper. A thin layer of the chemical compound cobalt(II) chloride is applied to it, which is blue in its anhydrous state. When the paper absorbs moisture or water from the ambient air, the cobalt chloride also becomes moist. As the moisture level increases, it changes color from blue through violet to pink.
The relative humidity in the barrier layer is displayed in percent in the designated impregnated fields on the indicator paper. This allows verification of whether the critical humidity value for the packaged goods has been exceeded.
Application of Humidity Indicators
The indicator is primarily used when export packaging is transported in containers through different climate zones over an extended period. The use of humidity indicators is also useful for storage and shipping of moisture-sensitive goods, raw materials, electrical items, or pharmaceutical products.
Together with the appropriate desiccant in the correct quantity, humidity indicators serve to secure cargo and protect against moisture damage.
