Bulk Orange Silica Gel has a special feature in addition to the properties of classic, whitish-colorless silica gel. It has a practical indicator that changes color from orange to green when saturated by approx. 6%. The more water absorbed, the more intense the green color becomes. Once the silica gel has reached a green-blue coloration, the maximum saturation of the desiccant is reached. The indicator provides simple and useful assistance.
Likewise, Orange Silica Gel is available in packets. The casing material here is slightly transparent, making the color indicator easy to check.

Sizing: How much silica gel do I need to buy?
This question cannot be answered with a rule of thumb. Silica gel can bind moisture through adsorption. Depending on the product type and quality, the absorption capacity is between 25 and 39%. Very large-pore silica gel sometimes adsorbs over 60% moisture. The exact amount depends on the temperature and relative humidity within the barrier film (airtight casing in which the goods are packed). The goods to be protected must also be considered in the calculation.
Regeneration: How often do I need to buy new silica gel?
Silica gel, even when filled in packets, releases the bound water vapor again at very low humidity, which can be used for regeneration. However, industrial desiccants are usually not intended for regeneration. The costs for the energy required generally exceed the costs of reacquisition. An exception here is bulk silica gel. This is primarily used in laboratories and can be regenerated at approx. 130 °C.
