Challenge: moisture and condensation in bridge piers
For structural reasons, there are cavities or inspection shafts inside the piers, often several meters below the water level. Due to their location, these areas are particularly susceptible to condensation caused by temperature differences and the ingress of moisture in the event of potential leaks. Even in largely sealed constructions, the humidity inside can rise over time. This leads to risks such as corrosion on installed steel beams or cables, mold formation or microbial growth, as well as impairments to sensors, maintenance equipment, or power supplies.
