Moisture protection for sensitive electronics during transport

A European manufacturer of high-tech electronic systems planned to ship sensitive electronic components in a shipping container to Asia. The disassembled system components, including microchip circuits and other parts, are extremely susceptible to moisture, which can cause corrosion and short circuits. Against this background, the company decided to take preventive measures to avoid moisture damage.
SeaDry protects electronics from moisture damage

Challenge: high humidity during long-distance transport

During the transfer, which lasted a total of over 8 weeks, the container passed through various climate zones with fluctuating temperatures and humidity levels. This posed a significant risk to the loaded electronics, as humidity above 50% can already lead to corrosion damage on cables and components. The customer was looking for a solution to keep the relative humidity consistently low and thus ensure the functionality of the electronics. The packaging components were also to be protected.

Solution with SeaDry:

The company decided to use SeaDry Hook 1200g for protection. The desiccant was attached to the lashing eyes on the container walls to prevent condensation. In addition to this cargo securing measure for the entire container, DIN 55473 desiccants were integrated within the packaging on the pallets to ensure maximum moisture protection.

Result:

The combined use of SeaDry plus inbox desiccants proved successful—throughout the entire transport, moisture was kept at a safe level. Both the electronic components and the packaging materials arrived at the destination without damage. Particularly convincing was the economical use of the SeaDry container desiccants, as only 10 units per 40-foot container were sufficient to reliably protect the entire cargo.
