Challenge: increase in moisture during transport and storage
Our customer had loaded kiln-dried lumber with 8–12% residual moisture. After four weeks, the value upon arrival was up to 45% wood moisture due to the heavily fluctuating humidity during transport. The reason: wood strives for equilibrium moisture content and adapts its water content to the ambient climate. The outer beams in the transport racks in particular had absorbed significant moisture.
