Challenge: extreme climate fluctuations on the 10,000 km long route
Unlike by sea, where the storage position determines how much the cargo is exposed to the elements, the conditions on rail are the same for all containers. The New Silk Road leads over 10,000 km not only across national borders but also through various climate zones. Extreme temperature fluctuations and the resulting sharp rise and fall in relative humidity favor the formation of condensation – and thus increase the risk of moisture damage.
