Challenge: Long transport times and moisture-exposed cargo during tour operations
Scenery components, props, and sound and lighting equipment were transported from Germany to South Korea in two 40-foot containers. The outbound and return transport each took around three months, including roughly fifty days at sea.
The equipment comprised a range of materials – from metals and plastics to natural materials such as wood, flax, and fabrics. It was transported both unpacked and in flight cases. On site, the shipping containers also served as storage and were repeatedly loaded and unloaded at various venues. High humidity and rain during loading and unloading introduced additional moisture into the cargo. Fluctuating temperatures increased the risk of condensation, mold, and corrosion – even inside the closed transport cases.
